Visitor Visa (Subclass 600)
The Visitor visa (subclass 600) lets you visit Australia for tourism or business visitor activities.
Tourism includes holidays, recreation and seeing family or friends.
Business visitor activities may include attending a conference, negotiation or an exploratory business visit.
You cannot work for or provide services to a business or organisation in Australia or sell goods or services to the public. If you are intending to do short-term work in Australia you should apply for the new Temporary work (short stay activity) visa (subclass 400).
Family members who want to travel to Australia with you must lodge separate visa applications. You cannot include them in your application.
If you are applying in the Sponsored Family stream, any visiting family members who want to visit Australia with you must be included on the sponsorship form.
To apply, you must:

Genuinely intend to do the activities in the stream you are applying for.

Provide biometrics (a scientific form of identification) as part of the application.
This visa has four streams:
Tourist stream:for people travelling to Australia for a holiday, recreation or to visit family and friends. If you apply for this visa in Australia, you must be in Australia when the visa is decided. If you apply for this visa outside Australia, you must be outside Australia when the visa is decided.
Business Visitor stream:for business people travelling to Australia for a short business visit. This includes going to a conference, negotiation or meeting. You must be outside Australia when you apply and when the visa is decided.
Sponsored Family stream:for people travelling to Australia to visit their family. You must have a sponsor who might be asked to provide a bond. You must be outside Australia when you apply and when the visa is decided. You cannot apply for another visa after you have arrived in Australia.
Approved Destination Status stream:for people from the People’s Republic of China who are travelling in an organised tour group. You must be outside Australia when you apply and when the visa is decided.

pay the visa application charge when you apply.

TOURIST STREAM
You must also be able to show that you are travelling to Australia as a genuine visitor, for example as a tourist, for recreation or to visit your family and friends.
If you apply in Australia, you must be in Australia when the visa is decided.
If you apply outside Australia, you must be outside Australia when the visa is decided.
If you are visiting family, the department will tell you if you need a sponsor or if you need to pay a security bond when you apply.
You might be granted a visa under this stream for regular extended visits to Australia if you are either:
the parent or step-parent of an Australian citizen or permanent resident
the parent of an eligible New Zealand citizen.
You could be asked to prove that you hold 12 months of health insurance cover.
Visitor visas for parents of Australians
Due to the length of the permanent Parent (Migrant) visa (subclass 103) queue, and the desirability of family reunion, the department may grant a more generous Visitor visa. You will automatically be considered for this if you are a parent or step-parent of:
an Australian citizen or permanent resident.
an eligible New Zealand citizen.
The department will consider these applications on a case-by-case basis and can grant visas that last up to:
five years for parents outside Australia who are in the Parent (Migrant) visa (subclass 103) queue
three years for parents outside Australia who have had a previous Australian visa and complied with the visa conditions, and either:
have not applied for a Parent visa have applied for a Parent visa (subclass 103) but are not yet in the Parent visa queue
18 months for parents who have not previously travelled to Australia and either have not applied for a Parent visa, or
have applied for a Parent visa (subclass 103) but are not yet in the Parent visa queue.
The visa will have 3 extra visa conditions:
Maximum 12 month stay in 18 months: You cannot stay in Australia for more than 12 months on any visit or for more than 12 months in any 18-month period.
Health insurance: You must maintain fully comprehensive health insurance while you are in Australia. You could be asked to provide evidence of 12 months health insurance cover when you apply. Reciprocal health arrangements are not adequate to meet this requirement.
No further stay: You cannot apply for a new visa while you are in Australia. You must leave Australia no later than the date on which your visa ends, except in extremely limited circumstances.

BUSINESS VISITOR STREAM
You must be able to show:
your business backgroung- that you have a good business reason for travelling to Australia.
Business activities include:
Making general business or employment enquiries
Investigating, negotiating, signing or reviewing a business contract
Activities carried out as part of an official government-to-government visit
Participating in conferences, trade fairs or seminars, as long as you are not being paid by the organisers for your participation.
You must be outside Australia when you apply and when the visa is decided.
You do not need a sponsor to apply for this stream.

SPONSORED FAMILY STREAM
You must be able to show:
you are travelling to Australia as a genuine visitor
you will visit your family
you are sponsored by an eligible relative or an Australian government official.
TOP
APPROVED DESTINATION STATUS STREAM
You can apply for the Approved Destination Status stream if you:
are a citizen of the People's Republic of China
are in the People’s Republic of China when you apply and when the visa is decided
apply through an agent registered under the Approved Destination Status Scheme.
You do not need a sponsor to apply for this stream.

Electronic Travel Authority ETA (Subclass 601)
The Electronic Travel Authority lets you visit Australia for tourism or business purposes if you hold an eligible passport from a certain country.
Tourism includes holidays, recreation and seeing family and/or friends.
Business purposes may include attending a conference, negotiation or an exploratory business visit.
You cannot work for or provide services to a business or organisation in Australia or sell goods or services to the public. If you are intending to carry out short-term work in Australia you should apply for the new Temporary work (short stay activity) visa (subclass 400).
The Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) (subclass 601) lets you enter Australia as many times as you want for up to 12 months if you are:
a tourist
travelling for business purposes.
The ETA is an electronically stored authority for travel to Australia. You must be outside Australia when you apply and when the ETA is granted.
An ETA is linked electronically to your passport. It can be seen by staff at airlines, travel agencies and Australian border agencies.
Your ETA lets you enter Australia for up to three months at a time as a tourist or for business purposes.
Business activities include:
making general business or employment enquiries
investigating, negotiating, signing or reviewing a business contract
carrying out activities as part of an official government-to-government visit
participating in conferences, trade fairs or seminars, as long as you are not being paid by the organisers for your participation.
If you want to stay in Australia for longer periods, you should apply another type of visa, such as a Visitor visa (subclass 600).
Health insurance
You are responsible for all your health costs while you are in Australia. You will not be covered by Australia's national health scheme unless your country has a Reciprocal Health Care Agreement with Australia.
It is recommended that you take out health insurance each time you travel to Australia.
Character requirements
If you have had any criminal convictions in any country, you should apply for a Visitor visa (subclass 600), rather than an ETA. If you arrive on an ETA with criminal convictions, you could be refused entry to Australia.
Debts to the Australian Government
To enter Australia you must have no outstanding debts to the Australian Government or have arranged to repay any outstanding debts to the Australian Government.
Including family in your application
Each family member travelling with you to Australia will need a separate ETA. This includes any children younger than 18 years of age who are included on your passport.

You should apply for your ETA at least two weeks before you travel. You will not receive a stamp or label in your passport. You will be provided with a confirmation for your records.
Lodge your application online
You can apply for this ETA online at Electronic Travel Authority if you hold a citizen passport from one of the following countries:
Brunei
Canada
Hong Kong (SAR)
Japan
Malaysia
Singapore
South Korea
United States.
When you lodge your application, the department will give you a Transaction Reference Number (TRN). Keep a record of this so you can follow the progress of your application.
You will need your passport, an email address and a credit card to pay the application charge when you apply.

If you hold an eligible citizen passport but cannot lodge your application online, you can apply:

Medical Treatment visa (Subclass 602)
The Medical Treatment visa (subclass 602) is a temporary visa for people to:
Have medical treatment or medical consultations in Australia
Donate an organ
Support the person who is having medical treatment in Australia.
You cannot apply for this visa to have medical treatment for surrogate motherhood.
You can apply for this visa when you are in or outside Australia.
If you apply in Australia, you must be in Australia when the visa is decided.
If you apply outside Australia, you must be outside Australia when the visa is decided.
This visa allows you to:
Stay in Australia for medical treatment
Study for up to three months, unless you are younger than 18 and your circumstances change while you are in Australia
travel to Australia either:
Once to enter the country until your treatment plan is completed, or
As many times as you want while your visa is valid.
You can apply for this visa if any of the following apply:
you have a medical treatment plan or medical consultation in Australia
are going to donate an organ to someone
you are coming with a patient or organ donor who is applying for this visa
are going to receive an organ from someone who travels to Australia with you
you are coming to Australia as a patient under the arrangements between the Western Province of Papua New Guinea and the Queensland Department of Health
you are in Australia, and you are 50 years of age or older, and you have been refused a permanent visa on health grounds only.
To be granted this visa you must also
meet financial, health and character requirements
not have a medical condition that could be a threat to public health
not hold either of the following visas:
Domestic Worker (Diplomatic/Consular) visa (subclass 426)
the Domestic Worker stream of the Temporary Work (International Relations) visa (subclass 403).
Financial requirements
You must provide evidence that you have enough money to support yourself while you are in Australia. You must also show that you have enough money for your travel and treatment.
You must also show that you have made arrangements for:
your treatment
other expenses related to your stay in Australia
the expenses of anyone who comes with you to Australia (this includes the organ donor's expenses).
You must show that payment for any treatment in a public hospital has been approved by the treating hospital.
Health requirements
You must meet certain health requirements. After you have lodged your application, you will be asked to have a health examination to ensure you are clear of active tuberculosis. Do not arrange a health examination until the department asks you to.
Anyone who comes with you to Australia to support you while you are being treated must meet the health requirement. The department will tell them when to arrange a health examination.
Character requirements
You must meet certain character requirements. You must be prepared to provide a police certificate from each country you have lived in for 12 months or more during the past 10 years after you turned 16 years of age. Do not arrange for police certificates until the department asks you to.
Debts to the Australian government
To enter Australia you must have no outstanding debts to the Australian government or have arranged to repay any outstanding debts to the Australian government.

You might be asked to provide biometrics (a scientific form of identification) as part of the application.

eVisitor (subclass 651)
eVisitor lets you visit Australia for tourism or business purposes if you hold an eligible passport from a certain country.
Tourism includes holidays, recreation and seeing family and/or friends.
Business purposes may include attending a conference, negotiation or an exploratory business visit.
You cannot work for or provide services to a business or organisation in Australia or sell goods or services to the public. If you are intending to carry out short-term work in Australia you should apply for the new Temporary work (short stay activity) visa (subclass 400).
An eVisitor allows you to enter Australia for tourism or business purposes. You may stay for up to three months during each visit during the 12 months from the date the eVisitor is granted.
To apply for an eVisitor, you must:
intend to visit Australia only temporarily and for tourism or business purposes
be outside Australia
hold an eVisitor-eligible passport
be free of tuberculosis when you enter Australia
not have been convicted of an offence or offences for which the total sentence is more than 12 months (whether or not the sentence has been served).
You need a separate eVisitor for each family member travelling with you to Australia, including those who are under 18 and are included on your passport.
